Superwhisper for Windows: what works, and the alternatives

October 21, 2026 · 6 min read

Last updated 21 October 2026.

Superwhisper works on Windows. After about ten months in beta, the Windows version came out on 2 December 2025, and it runs on Windows 10 and 11 on both x64 and ARM64 PCs. If you heard it was Mac-only, that was true until late 2025.

We make Lispr, one of the alternatives on this page, so we list a limitation for every app, ours included.

What Superwhisper does on Windows

Superwhisper runs from the system tray. Put your cursor in a text box, press Ctrl+Space (the default shortcut), talk, and press it again: Superwhisper pastes what you said at the cursor and copies it to the clipboard as well. It can run speech models on your PC, so plain dictation works without an internet connection.

Modes set how the AI rewrites your words: casual for chat, formal for email. One Superwhisper license covers your Mac and your PC, so Mac users who also work on Windows pay once.

What the Windows version still lacks

Superwhisper's own documentation lists the features its Windows app doesn't have yet. These are the ones you'd notice first:

Superwhisper updates often, so check its Windows documentation for the current list before you pay.

Wispr Flow is the closest alternative if you want polished text with no setup, and it covers iPhone and Android as well. It costs $15 a month, and all of its transcription runs in the cloud. To keep your audio on your PC, stay with Superwhisper's local models or try Handy, which is free, open source and runs best with a graphics card. Voice Access and Dragon are the tools for controlling Windows by voice; the dictation apps here only type text.

Lispr on Windows

Lispr is a push-to-talk dictation app for Windows 10 and later. It lives in the system tray, and right Ctrl is the default key: hold it, speak, release, and the words appear at your cursor. If right Ctrl gets in your way, pick another key in settings. The installer is about 14 MB and code-signed, with Codebridge Technology, Inc. as the verified publisher.

Lispr transcribes with hosted Whisper large-v3-turbo, so your PC needs no model download and no graphics card, and text comes back in a median 346 ms. It understands about 99 languages and follows you when you switch language mid-sentence. Hold a translation key together with the dictation key, and the text arrives translated into any of 32 languages.

You get 60 free minutes of dictation a week, reset every Monday, with no account or card and every feature included. Pro costs $79 a year or $7.99 a month, removes the weekly cap and signs in with an email code.

Lispr needs an internet connection, so it won't help on a flight without Wi-Fi. It has no voice commands for controlling Windows and no phone app.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Superwhisper alternative for Windows?

Yes, several, and Superwhisper itself now runs on Windows 10 and 11. Wispr Flow is the closest match for polished, AI-cleaned text and costs $15 a month. Lispr gives you 60 free minutes a week with no account. Handy is free and open source and runs Whisper on your PC. Windows also has free voice typing (Win+H), and Windows 11 adds Voice Access.

Best Whisper-based dictation apps for Windows

Superwhisper runs Whisper and other speech models on your PC and adds AI modes that rewrite the text. Lispr uses hosted Whisper large-v3-turbo, so it needs an internet connection but no model download, and returns text in a median 346 ms. Handy is free and open source (MIT) and runs Whisper models locally; it works best with a graphics card.

Does Superwhisper work offline on Windows?

Dictation can, if you choose a local speech model. The AI modes can't: on Windows they call cloud language models, because Superwhisper doesn't support local language models there yet.

Is Superwhisper free on Windows?

Yes. The free plan runs small speech models on your PC. Pro costs $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once.

Does one Superwhisper license cover Mac and Windows?

Yes. A Pro license works on unlimited Mac and Windows computers, and on iPhone and iPad.
